McCuiston Law Offices is a law firm providing services in Cary since 2001 in the areas of corporate law, estate planning, and tax controversies. Our core values include “paying it forward,” by offering internships to students who are interested in pursuing law as a career. To that end, we have internships at all levels: law, college and high school, as well as recent graduates. We are seeking motivated individuals to join us in delivering quality service to our clients.

  • The Legal Intern provides essential administrative, logistical, and technical support to our legal team. This role is designed for a proactive and detail-oriented individual eager to gain practical experience in a professional legal environment. You will play a crucial role in enhancing firm efficiency and supporting our client service operations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the lifecycle of physical and digital documents, including scanning, organizing, and secure file management.

    • Assist in preparing conference rooms and providing hospitality for client meetings.

    • Handle routine, non-substantive client communications under the direction of legal staff.

    • Field incoming phone calls with a professional and helpful demeanor.

    • Provide informal support for common office technology to improve team productivity.

    • Participate in special projects, such as legal research support, communications drafting, and assisting with new system implementation.

  • The College Intern provides foundational administrative and clerical support to the firm’s attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistant. The role is designed to contribute to the high productivity of a small firm environment while offering the intern practical experience in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, and business transactions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Answering phone calls and delegating new client intake forms.

    • Assisting with the review and editing of client billing statements.

    • Organizing and maintaining case and client files.

    • Retrieving deed information using various Register of Deed resources.

    • Assisting with the preparation of correspondence and other documents.

    • Maintaining accurate timekeeping records in law practice management software.

    • Assisting with managing attorney calendars as they relate to deadlines and appointments.

    • Assisting with gathering information needed for IRS forms, such as obtaining client EINs.

  • The Pre-Law Legal Intern provides essential administrative and project-based support to the firm’s attorneys across a range of practice areas. This internship is a unique opportunity for a recent college graduate considering law school to gain foundational, practical experience in a professional legal environment. The role is suited for a driven, detail-oriented individual eager to contribute to a client-centered team while gaining valuable exposure to the mechanics of a law practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the firm’s attorneys, the Pre-Law Intern's duties will focus on support tasks that are crucial to our practice areas, including:

    • Case & Client File Support: Assisting with client intake and file management, including organizing physical and digital documents for matters related to estate planning, corporate law, and real estate.

    • Factual Research: Conducting non-legal research and gathering information from public records or other sources to support case files.

    • Document Preparation & Proofreading: Assisting in the preparation of materials and binders for client meetings and transaction closings. Proofreading and cite-checking documents drafted by attorneys to ensure accuracy and adherence to formatting requirements.

    • Drafting for Attorney Review: Creating initial drafts of routine correspondence, transmittal letters, and basic corporate or real estate documents for an attorney's review and finalization.

    • Administrative Support: Providing general administrative support that enhances firm efficiency and contributes to our client service operations.

  • The Law Student Summer Clerk provides substantive assistance to the firm’s attorneys across a range of practice areas. The clerkship is an opportunity to gain experience in a firm that offers large-firm services in a cost-effective and personable way, consistent with the vision of its founder. The role is suited for a driven, bright individual willing to put in extra effort to sharpen their legal skills.

    Core Responsibilities

    The primary responsibility of the Summer Clerk is to assist the firm's two attorneys in the following practice areas:

    • Estate Planning

    • Estate Administration

    • Tax Controversy

    • Corporate Law

    • Commercial Real Estate

    Duties within these areas will include legal research, analysis, and drafting under the direct supervision of the firm’s attorneys.

  • 15–25 Hours per Week

    We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Part-Time Estate Planning Attorney to support our growing practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of matters, including estate planning, tax controversy, and M&A transactions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Draft wills and related estate planning documents

    • Conduct client intake meetings and help guide clients through the planning process

    • Oversee and coordinate will signings and execution ceremonies

    • Review estate planning documents for accuracy and compliance

    • Assist with tax controversy matters and M&A transactional work

    • Support Enrolled Agent (EA) files as needed

    • Receive mentorship and training (ideal for candidates new to estate planning but eager to learn)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Board Certification in Estate Planning/Probate (highly preferred)

    • Prior estate planning experience is a plus, though not required

    • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and client-focused mindset

    Compensation:
    $40–$80 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
